Dr. Mark Swanson

Dean of the Faculty of Education

Dr. Mark SwansonDr. Mark Swanson is Dean of Education at Concordia University College. He holds a B.Ed. in Social Studies, a B.A. in Political Science, a M.A. in Religious Studies, a M.Ed. in Teaching and a Ph.D. in Educational Administration. Dr. Swanson is an experienced classroom teacher, school principal, researcher and writer. His research interests include teacher induction, teacher education program efficacy and, educational standards, teacher certification and government policy.

 

 

Dr. Margaret McVea

Professor

Dr. Margaret McVeaDr. Margaret McVea received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Alberta (U of A), in Classics and Psychology. She completed a B.Ed after degree in secondary social studies as well as a graduate diploma in elementary reading. Margaret completed a Master's degree in educational psychology and received her Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Policy Studies from U of A in 1998.

Currently Dr. McVea is conducting research in several areas dealing with technology and learning. One project is focused on the use of video-conferencing in delivering course content and the second is dealing with the professional and pedagogical uses of laptop computers in the preparation of teachers.

Dr. Joanne Neal

Associate Professor

Dr. Joanne NealDr. Joanne Neal received her Bachelor of Education (AB), Masters of Education (Oregon), and PhD in Curriculum at the University of Alberta. She has been teaching for thirteen years and was recently a Supervisor in Resource Development Services with Edmonton Public Schools. Dr. Neal has had numerous awards and honors including the Western Canadian finalist and alternate national delegate for NASA's International Space Camp for Educators.

 

 

 

Dr. Tim Loreman

Associate Professor

Dr. Tim LoremanTim Loreman, PhD., has taught in a variety of classroom settings in, both Australia and Canada. He worked in the Faculty of Education at Monash University in Melbourne before returning to Canada and joining Concordia in 2003. Tim's professional interests include educational psychology and inclusive education. He is widely published in peer-reviewed journals, and his research and writing have been focused largely on the subject of inclusion. Tim currently holds a number of major federal government and local research grants, and has conducted research and presented at major conferences throughout the world, including in Australia, Hong Kong, the United States, Britain, Italy, France, Canada, and the Ukraine. Tim is editor of the International Journal of Whole Schooling, and co-author of the book Inclusive education: A practical guide for supporting diversity in the classroom which won the 2005 Exceptionality Education Canada Book of the Year Award. His new book, Respecting childhood, is scheduled for international publication by Continuum in 2009.

Dr. Maureen Stratton-Lemieux

Assistant Professor

Dr. Maureen Stratton-LemieuxDr. Maureen Stratton Lemieux received her Bachelor of Arts degree in History (Distinction) and a Professional Diploma After Degree (PD/AD) in Elementary Education, both from the University of Alberta. She received her Masters Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Alberta, focusing in Early Childhood Education and Language Arts. In 1995, she completed her Doctor of Philosophy in Elementary Education from the University of Alberta. Areas of study in her doctoral program included Early Childhood Education, Language Arts, and Teacher Education. Dr. Stratton Lemieux is an experienced classroom teacher and administrator. She is past President of the Northern Alberta Reading Specialists’ Council (NARSC). Her research interests include early and family literacy, and teacher inductions.

 

Mr. David Boesch

Administration Officer and Field Experience Coordinator

Mr. David BoeschMr. David Boesch is the Administrative officer to the Faculty of Education and the Field Experience Coordinator in the B.Ed. program. He completed a B.A. and B.Ed. (After Degree in Elementary Education) at the University of Saskatchewan in 1970, an M.Ed. (School Counseling) at the University of Regina and course work at the University of Alberta for his Ed. D. in Educational Administration. David has worked as an elementary and junior high teacher, a post-secondary counselor, and the Director of Student Services at Luther College, University of Regina. His research interests include university student development, teacher professional development and organizational development.

 

Ms. Connie Head

Secretary for the Faculty of Education

Ms. Connie HeadMs. Connie Head comes to us with office experience in a personnel agency and a church. She provides secretarial support for all education staff and is a good person to call on for help. If Connie can't help you, she'll find the person who can.
